I struggle to cling to my sanity on a daily basis. Having three children does that to me. But on occasion, it's more than just the stresses of life that get to me. It's the mental illness of anxiety and depression. Staying sane is a constant battle.
Every day, more and more of my friends are coming out with the same struggles. I can empathize. I've been there. I am there.
I understand the despair, the lack of control, and the feelings of inadequacy. But something I was reminded of last weekend gives me hope. It was a presentation by one of the wisest men I have been privileged to associate with: Jeffrey R. Holland.
Whether you believe in God or not, believe in miracles. Believe that things can and will get better. Believe in yourself.
You're stronger than you know. You might not feel strong now, but remember, miracles happen. And they happen because you believe they will happen. If you don't have that belief now, lean on someone else. Someone who's been there and knows of your pain.
If you don't have a person like that in your life, lean on me. I still have my valleys of depression and bouts of anxiety, but I have also known joy and peace. Let me believe in those miracles until you see your own and know for yourself that life is meant to be enjoyed and not just endured.
